On-Line CME Quizzes from JAMA Help Keep Physicians Sharp
Continuing Medical Education (CME) is an integral component for the professional development of practicing physicians and other health care professionals. There is a full range of programs available from various schools (through conferences and workshops, remote courses and on-line learning) designed to enhance the practitioner’s knowledge base and expand his or her competence and performance.
In addition, JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), under the governance of the AMA, provides CME courses. There are articles on various topics and on-line quizzes through its network. Those physicians who complete the CME course and score at least 80% correct on the quiz are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM.
The CME courses cover primary care, specialty, and many subspecialty topics in the field of medicine. This includes allergy/immunology, cardiology, care of the aging patient, dentistry/oral medicine, drug therapy, emergency medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, geriatrics, healthcare delivery, medical ethics, nephrology, nursing care, obesity, obstetrics/gynecology, oncology, pain, pediatrics, radiation therapy, sports medicine, surgery, vascular medicine violence, among many others. In fact, there are nearly 500 courses available.
